Ultrawide Monitors: Widen Your Horizons

Ultrawide monitors are the biggest thing in PC displays — literally. Whether you’re looking for a curved gaming monitor, a graphic design display, or just a high-quality monitor for streaming entertainment, these ultrawide displays deliver a revolutionary widescreen experience.

An ultrawide monitor can offer incredible advantages. Extra screen real estate makes multitasking a breeze, and the wraparound design of curved gaming monitors offers an unprecedented degree of immersion for PC gamers. Discover the amazing array of functionality and technology available from Micro Center’s selection of the best ultrawide monitors.

Choosing an Ultrawide Monitor

What features should you prioritize when considering an ultrawide monitor?

Screen Size: This is why you are here! Many of the most popular ultrawide computer monitors are between 32 and 34 inches, but the largest super ultrawide models can be as big as 49 inches or more. Monitors with more screen space also often support wider aspect ratios such as 21:9, although not all apps may natively support these ratios.

Resolution: Ultrawide monitors almost always feature at least 1080p Full HD - also called FHD - and 1440p resolution - also known as 2K QHD. Many also offer 4K UHD resolution, although it is important to verify that your PC hardware is capable of acceptable performance at these resolutions before buying.

Panel Type: Most ultrawide monitors use VA panel technology, known for its excellent contrast and vivid colors. However, there are some ultrawide IPS monitors available, which are popular for their excellent response times and wide viewing angles. A few even use top of the line OLED technology, which illuminates each pixel individually for incredibly dark blacks and vivid colors.

Refresh Rate: Refresh rates for ultrawide monitors vary widely. 60Hz is the common minimum standard and can be sufficient if you don’t game or mostly play slower paced titles. For eSports players and others who need the smoothest possible performance for PC gaming, a 144hz or even 240hz refresh rate monitor may be the best choice.

Response Time: Gray to gray (GtG) response time measures how quickly a monitor’s pixels can change colors. A fast response time can be especially important for ultrawide gaming monitors, since the VA panels they commonly use are more prone to ghosting and motion blur, especially when using a high refresh rate. Competitive gamers may want to prioritize an ultra fast response time of 1ms or less, but others will find that a slower response time works just as well for their needs.

Adaptive Sync: These built in features, such as AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G Sync, help prevent screen tearing by automatically keeping the graphics card’s frame rate in sync with the monitor’s refresh rate.

Curvature: A large majority of ultrawide monitors feature curved screens, which help create a more immersive experience - but some monitors are significantly more curved than others. In general, larger screens tend to have a more significant curvature.

Connectors: Make sure your monitor has any input and output connectors your setup requires, particularly if you plan on connecting other hardware, such as laptops. HDMI is a must for most users, but other connector types, such as Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, DisplayPort, and USB C, may also be important.
