PowerSpec NUC1 Overview
Description: This article provides an overview of the new PowerSpec NUC1 computer. NUC is an acronym that stands for Next Unit of Computing. The PowerSpec NUC1 Desktop Computer features the Intel Core i5-5250U processor with Intel HD 6000 graphics, combined with a fast 256GB Solid State Drive and 8GB of DDR3 memory, to provide a powerful and reliable computing experience in an ultra small form factor package.
- The PowerSpec NUC1 has all the hardware of a regular desktop computer packed into its small size measuring only 4.52 inches by 4.37 inches and just 1.9 inches tall.
- On the front of the unit, there are two USB 3.0 ports - one of which (the yellow port) can be used for charging even when the unit is not powered on. There is also a 3.5mm jack for headphones or a microphone.
- On the back of the unit, from left to right, is the 12-19V DC power jack. Next is a mini DisplayPort for video. In the middle, there is a 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet port. There are two additional USB 3.0 ports, and finally a mini-HDMI port.
- On the top of the unit, there is a power button for the unit. The lid is removable to access the inside of the computer by loosening the four screws on the bottom. On the white stickers your will find the serial number and the MAC address of the device.
- As for the hardware components of the unit, the motherboard is the Intel NUC515RYH, which includes Intel HD 6000 graphics support. The PowerSpec NUC1 comes with support for 802.11ac wireless networking and also has built-in Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities. The processor in this unit is the Intel Core i5-5250U. The system has 8GB of DDR3L-1600 memory, and the included hard drive is a fast 256GB Solid State Drive. Memory and storage could easily be upgraded in the future either by swapping out existing components or by adding an mSATA expansion card to the motherboard.
