Office 365 Frequently Asked Questions

Description: This article contains some of the most frequently asked questions about Microsoft Office 365 from Summer 2019.

Q: How do I install Microsoft Office 365?
A: You will need a valid Office 365 license key and a Microsoft Account to start install and activate Office. Go to office.com/setup and sign in using a Microsoft Account. Then enter your Office 365 Product Key. Download and begin - the setup process should begin automatically. Please see our article How to activate and install Medialess Office 2019 or Office 365 for more details.

Q: Do I need a Microsoft Account to install Microsoft Office 365?
A: Yes. Microsoft Accounts are free and can be assigned to any existing email address, or you can sign up for a new email address from Microsoft if you need one. Microsoft Accounts are used among other reasons for Office and Windows program registration and activation.

Q: What if my license key isn’t accepted on the Microsoft Office setup website?
A: First, make sure that the code is entered correctly. To help see this, take a damp cloth to wipe any remaining silver foil from the code. Carefully enter each letter or number - the hyphens should be entered for you automatically. If you still have trouble, please reach out to our tech support team for further assistance.

Q: What if Word or Excel say that my subscription is about to end after I installed Microsoft Office 365?
A: Sometimes new computers come with a trial version of some Office applications. To make sure your subscription is linked to any existing installed applications, sign in with your Microsoft Account. If needed, try to uninstall the trial version so the computer only has the version that you purchased and installed. Please see our support article How to sign in to Microsoft Office with a Microsoft Account for additional details.

Q: I have already activated my license but never installed Microsoft Office. How do I install it now?
A: First log in with your Microsoft Account at office.com/myaccount in your web browser. Then select My Subscriptions near the top right of the screen where you will then find the Install link next to Office 365.

Q: What applications are included with Office 365?
A: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft OneDrive, which is Microsoft’s cloud service. On Windows, Office 365 also includes Publisher and Access.

Q: Do I have to renew Office 365 every year?
A: Yes, Office 365 is a subscription-based payment model. This allows you to receive updates as they are released and can be scheduled to be paid online monthly or yearly. Subscription cards can also be purchased in store.

Q: How many computers can I install Office 365 on?
A: You can share Office 365 Home with up to 5 additional people. Each user can install Office on their Windows or Mac computer, and their Android or iOS phones and tablets. Office 365 Personal is only available for a single computer.

Q: How do I share my subscription with someone else?
A: First, log in to Office.com with your Microsoft Account. Then go to the Services & Subscriptions link near the top right. Under your Office 365 Subscription, choose Sharing. This will allow you to send an email or share a link to help the other person activate Office on their computer.
