All in One Printer Frequently Asked Questions

Description: This article contains some of the most frequently asked questions about All in One Printers from Fall 2019.

Q: Why is a printer considered an All in One device?
A: A printer that can support printing, scanning, and copying is typically considered an All in One - Some All in Ones can also fax.

Q: What is a Small in One?
A: These are All in One printers that are smaller than the standard All in Ones, however they work the same way.

Q: Do I have to set up every feature of my All in One?
A: No. Features like fax do not have to be set up unless you plan to use it. If you only want to use the copier, you do not have to use your computer at all.

Q: How do I scan a document?
A: There are two primary ways to scan. One option is to use the scan option from the printer, which may need to be set up. Another option is to use the software on the computer to start the scan.

Q: Do I have to use my WiFi to connect to the printer?
A: No. All in Ones can be connected to the computer directly using a USB cable. You can always use this same USB cable to set up to connect this printer wirelessly.

Q: What can I do if there are missing spots on the page?
A: Most inkjet printers will have a nozzle check pattern - this can show if there is a problem with the black or color ink. If there are missing spots, you can perform a head cleaning.

Q: Why is my laser printer printing faded pages?
A: Laser printers use toner cartridges so you may need to take it out and carefully shake side to side while avoiding spilling toner residue. If that does not resolve things, it may be time to replace the toner cartridge.

Q: Do I need my computer for all of the features?
A: No. Faxing with All in Ones does not have to use the computer at all and only needs a phone line. Copying can also be done with the All in One using the built in display, and doesn’t require the computer.

Q: Do I need a router to connect the All in One printer?
A: If you have multiple devices that need to print to the device, then it is recommended to connect it to a router. Any device that is on that network can then connect to the printer.

Q: How does the printer work wirelessly?
A: If the printer supports wireless, you will be able to perform a setup routine where it asks for your wireless network name username and password in order to configure the connection to the network.

Q: My printer no longer prints from my computer. What can I do?
A: There are a couple of things you can try. First, make sure the printer is still connected to the network or that the USB cable is plugged in between the printer and computer. Next, you can try diagnostic software or reinstalling the driver software from the manufacturer - this will either troubleshoot the problem successfully or may reinstall the printer as if it were new.

Q: My printer interface says there is a paper jam. What do I have to do?
A: First, you need to check if any paper is caught in the feeder or inside the printer. All in One printers typically have multiple doors to check: one for the paper tray under the scanner, where the ink is installed, and sometimes one located in the back for the rollers. If there is in fact paper jammed, attempt to carefully remove the jammed paper. After checking these try restarting the printer.

Q: How do I replace the ink when its low?
A: All in One printers will have a maintenance option that facilitates ink replacement. After choosing that option the printer will then direct you to remove the cartridges and allow you access to them from under the scanner unit.

Q: My computer says there is an error printing when trying to print. Is there a fix?
A: Check the printer display. Ensure the printer is turned on and has no messages displayed. The ready screen typically has copy and scan options to select. If it is clear, you may have to cancel the job and try again.

Q: How do I cancel a print job?
A: If the printer started printing you can use the stop or cancel button on the printer itself. If the computer hasn’t sent the job yet, then you will need to open the print queue and cancel the document from the computer - instructions on this can be found in our article: https://www.microcenter.com/tech_center/article/8644/how-to-clear-the-print-queue-in-windows-10.
