Q: What is Android?
A: Android is an operating system created by Google and used on many smartphones and tablets.

Q: Why am I asked for a Google account?
A: A Google account is used to store information regarding the applications you want to install and use on the Android device.

Q: Do I have to enter a Google account?
A: No, however you will not be able to install new applications or update existing ones without signing in to a Google account.

Q: What is the Play Store?
A: The Google Play Store is where you can obtain new applications or application updates to put on your Android device.

Q: Why do some apps say they are not compatible with my device?
A: The Play Store houses all applications for both phones and tablets. Some versions of apps are only meant for one or the other.

Q: How do I connect to the internet?
A: Android offers a connections section under settings that would allow you to change the wireless network it uses. After connecting to a wireless network, you can use different apps to access the internet.

Q: Where are the settings?
A: Android offers a drag down menu from the top where the notifications are. There will be a gear icon to access settings.

Q: What apps are already installed on an Android device?
A: Many Android devices will have numerous Google based applications preinstalled on the device, such as YouTube, Maps, and Mail. If purchased from a mobile carrier, there may be other applications that they install related to the services they offer.

Q: Can I remove preinstalled Android applications?
A: Yes, several applications will offer an uninstall option by holding the icon, then choosing to uninstall from the options that appear. Other applications will offer a disable option instead, which will stop it from getting updates.

Q: Where are the apps that I installed?
A: All the apps can be viewed by swiping up from the bottom, this would be the one of the pages of apps, then you can swipe left and right to view other pages.

Q: Can I use internet without wireless?
A: Yes, if you purchased a phone or tablet that supports a sim card, then you will have a section under connections for either mobile connections or data. This would give you the option to enable or disable it.

Q: How do Android devices update?
A: If a device is connected to the internet, Google, your mobile carrier, or the phone manufacturer may push important updates to the device.

Q: Can I stop updates?
A: No, sometimes you can delay them, but normally after it is downloaded it will install automatically and restart the device.

Q: What about the application updates?
A: Apps are updated automatically, however, you can stop them by going to the Play Store settings and turning off automatic updates.

Q: What options do I have to secure my device?
A: Android offers multiple security options including, PIN, pattern, and password. Other features may be available depending on the device such as fingerprint, facial recognition and iris scanning.

Q: Does Android have backup options?
A: Yes, Google offers a backup solution to backup data such as contacts and wireless networks to the Google account. Other options may be available depending on the manufacturer of the phone.

Q: Can I backup my photos?
A: Google does offer a way to upload the photos on your phone to Google Photos. This can be accessed online at https://www.google.com/photos/about/.

Q: How do I reset my Android Device?
A: Under settings there is a reset option. This will put the device back to original defaults like when it was new.
