Q: What are tags?
A: Tags are marks you can add to a file for quick access and organization, designated by the color you choose.

Q: How do I tag a file?
A: Hold Control and click on the file or two finger click the file. A list of options will display with tags showing at the bottom.

Q: Where can I check my tag settings?
A: With Finder open, hold down command and comma or click Finder on the top left then select preferences. In the Preferences window select the Tags option at the top.

Q: Can I use more than the seven colors given to me for tags?
A: The seven colors are the only options you can choose from. This is to ensure backwards compatibility for previous macOS builds.

Q: Can I rename a tag?
A: Yes. Under Tags in Finder preferences control + click or two-finger click the tag and click rename.

Q: Can I add or remove tags?
A: Under Tags in Finder preferences you can add a tag by clicking on the + below the list of tags. To remove one select the tag you wish to delete and click the - button. Deleting tags will not delete files, only the tag associated with it.

Q: If I tag a folder, will it tag the items inside of it?
A: No, only the folder itself will be tagged. You can assign separate tags for content within the folder.

Q: Can a file have more than one tag?
A: Yes, you can have multiple tags on a file.

Q: How do I access my tagged files?
A: In Finder you will see a list of tags on the left pane. Selecting any of these tags will open a list of all the items with that tag.
