How to control the Camera Module on a Raspberry Pi

Description: This article will show you how to control the camera module via the command line on a Raspberry Pi.

  1. Open a terminal window by selecting the black monitor icon in the taskbar.

  2. Type in the following command and press Enter to take a still picture and save it to the Desktop: raspistill -o Desktop/image.jpg.

  3. Type in the following command and press Enter to record a video and save it to the Desktop: raspivid -o Desktop/video.h264.
  4. You can change the size and look of the image by using different commands - for example, add -h or -w to change the height or width of the image.
