WinBook Recovery CD Is Not Booting

This guide will help troubleshoot the boot process for a WinBook Recovery disc. Note that some of the options here are advanced and should only be attempted by an experienced technician.

NOTE: If you are getting a "PC System Not Supported" error, please visit our Tech Note for that issue.

  • Do you see the WinBook screen as soon as you turn the computer on? If not and Windows does not load, there may be a hardware issue that would require the machine be taken in to a Micro Center store for service.
  • Ensure that the disc is clean and free of any major scratches. Clean the disc off with warm water and a soft cloth.
  • Verify that it is the first disc in the set (if applicable.)
    • It could be labeled as “Disc 1” or “Disc A” depending on the model and recovery CD Version if it is a multi-disc set.
  • Use the Boot Menu key on boot to enter the setup. Typically this key is F12 or ESC but it does vary on some models. Look around the edges of the first WinBook screen if these keys do not work.
    • Once the Boot Menu appears, use the arrow keys to choose the CD/DVD drive and then press Enter to boot to it.

ADVANCED OPTIONS:

  • Try replacing the CD/DVD drive if possible, or using a CD/DVD drive.
  • It is possible that there is a memory-related issue. On another computer, download and run the free Memtest86+ application from www.memtest.org and run a full memory diagnostic.
  • It is also possible that there is a problem with the Hard Drive.Try installing a new hard drive to see if it will boot.
  • If the issue persists it is possible that there is another hardware issue inside the PC. At that point it would be best to take it in to a Micro Center service department.
