How to change when your Computer Sleeps in Windows XP

A computer has several levels of sleep mode. This guide will show how to change the time it takes for your computer to get to each level of sleep.

  1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
  2. Select the Classic view for Control Panel. Note: The Control Panel may already be in Classic view.
  3. Double-click the Power Options icon.
  4. Set the time before the computer turns off the monitor.
  5. Set the time before the computer Turns off hard disks.
  6. Set the time before the system goes to standby.
  7. Set the time before the system hibernates.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Close the Control Panel.
