How to disable Windows Firewall in Windows Vista

To install some programs or perform some actions on the internet it may be required to temporarily disable Windows Firewall. This guide will show how to disable Windows Firewall in Windows Vista.

  1. Click the Start button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
  2. Select Control Panel on the right half of the Start menu.
  3. The Control Panel should open to a series of categories. If it does not, click the Control Panel Home link on the left.
  4. Click the green Security link.
  5. Click the Turn Windows Firewall on or off link below the Windows Firewall heading.
  6. Set the firewall to Off and click the OK button to turn off the Windows Firewall. It is not recommended to turn Windows Firewall off unless a third-party or secondary firewall is in use.
