How to add and remove Programs in the Dock in OS X

Windows uses a task bar to show the open programs and gives a place to open programs that are used often. OS X uses a Dock for this purpose. It is simple to add programs to the Dock using the following steps.

  1. Adding a program
    • Open finder by clicking on it in the Dock.
    • Open the applications folder.
    • Find the program you want to add.
    • Move the mouse pointer over the program and click and hold the mouse button, then drag the program to the Dock in the place you want to see it. Release the mouse button. This is now added to the dock.
  2. Removing a program
    • Move the mouse pointer over the dock to the program you want to remove.
    • Right click or control click the mouse and a menu will open up.
    • Move the mouse pointer up to options and select the first menu item. Choose Remove from Dock. The item is now removed from the dock but is still on your system in the applications folder.
