How to change Desktop Icon Label Position in OS X

OS X allows the user to change the position of labels attached to desktop icons. This document will explain the two options and how to select them.

  1. First, the Finder must be clicked to bring up the proper menus.
  2. Within the View menu is a function called Show View Options.
  3. About half way down is a category called Label position. The default position for labels is at the Bottom of the icon. While this is typical, it doesn’t give as much room to show information about the icon.
  4. Selecting the Right option, while a less common choice, gives more space to display information about the each icon.
  5. Pressing the circle in the upper left hand corner will make the View Options disappear.
