Description: The term User or Username can be confusing. What is this and why do I need one?

Most new computers will ask you to make a Username and a Password.

1. Username - this is the name that the computer uses to figure out where to put stuff. Many people use their name for the username, but it can be any name a person chooses.
   
   • These days more than one person can use the computer.
   • Each person who uses the computer can be given a unique username, also known as a user account.
   • This will keep the documents, photos, music and personal items separate for each user of the computer.
   • This will protect the documents, photos and such from other users of the computer.
2. Password - this is used with a username to make sure only the right person is using the documents and such that they should be using. It stops unauthorized people from using another person's account.
   
   • A password can be any combination of letters and numbers.
   • If you forget your password you cannot get back to the documents and files without special help from someone who can physically access your computer.
   • Write down a password so you can find it later.
   • A password can be taken off an account if the computer user does not have any concerns about people using their computer.
