How to back up the Mac Address Book Data with OS X 10.5 or Later

Description: This article will assist in backing up the Mac Address Book in Mac OS X 10.5 or later. This will prepare the address book to be imported in to a new Mac computer.

  1. Click on Address Book on the Mac OS X Dock.
  2. After the Address Book application opens, click on the File tab on top.
  3. Select Export and then Address Book Archive.
    • This will open the Save as dialog box.
  4. Click on the Arrow beside the Save As box to expand the options for saving and location for the saved archive.
  5. Name the file in the Save As field at the top and choose an easy to remember location to save the backup, then click Save in the bottom right.
  6. After saving the file, it can be added to a USB Jump drive or an External storage device for safe keeping.
