Description: What is Enhanced Protected Mode, and how does it work in Internet Explorer 10?

What is Enhanced Protected Mode in Internet Explorer 10?

Enhanced Protected Mode is the evolvement from Protected Mode that was created for Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Vista. With Enhanced Protected Mode enabled, programs cannot access certain parts of the operating system that might use an exploit to install malware or modify any of your computer settings.

By default it is enabled in the start screen version of Internet Explorer 10, but not in the desktop version. This was done for a reason because when enabling Enhanced Protected Mode it will prevent some websites (ones that use Adobe flash player for an example) from working correctly.

You can enable (or disable) Enhanced Protected Mode in the desktop version by going to Internet Options > Advanced > and then checking (or unchecking) the box for Enable Enhanced Protected Mode.
