Description: This technical article shows how to use Restore Points in Windows 7.

To create a restore point in Windows 7 do the following:

1. Click on Start then right-click on Computer, and then select Properties. This opens System Properties in the Control Panel. Click on the System Protection on the left side navigation list.
   
2. Now select the System Protection tab to get to the System Restore section. Click the Create button to create a new restore point.
   
3. You'll be prompted for a description for the new restore point. Enter something to help you identify the restore point, and then click the Create button.
   
4. When it's finished, you will get a message saying it has completed successfully.
   

To restore your computer to an earlier configuration using a restore point, do the following:

NOTE: Before you start System Restore, save any open files and close all programs. System Restore will restart your PC. You will not lose any data files, but programs installed after the restore point may have to be reinstalled.

1. Open System Restore by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type System Restore, and then, in the list of results, click System Restore. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. Follow the steps in the wizard to choose a restore point and restore your computer.
