How to boot Windows 8.1 Directly to the Desktop

Description: A how to guide on how to use taskbar properties to boot your Windows 8.1 machine directly to the desktop.

Windows 8.1 has an easy feature to tell the computer to boot directly to the desktop. To do this:

  1. Go to the Desktop on the computer.
  2. Right-click on an empty space on the Taskbar.
  3. Select Properties.

  4. Select the Navigation tab at the top of the window.

  5. Click in the box that says Go to the desktop instead of Start when I sign in and select Apply and then OK.

  6. The computer will boot directly to the desktop from then on.
