How to associate an Apple ID with User Accounts in Mac OS X

Description: This technical article shows how to associate an Apple ID with a User Account. This will allow you to use an Apple ID to reset your login password if the password is forgotten.

  1. Click and open System Preferences from the dock.

  2. Click and open Users & Groups.

  3. Click on Password, click on the lock, and then enter password to make changes.

  4. Click on Set next to Apple ID, and then enter your Apple ID and Password.

  5. Click the check box to Allow user to reset password using the Apple ID and then click the lock to save and keep settings.

  6. Note: If you forget the login password, you can reset the password using the Apple ID and password when Allow user to reset password using Apple ID is checked.
