Upgrading to Windows 10 - Printer and All-In-One Support

As with other recent versions, Windows 10 will natively support many common printers through simple detection and recognition. For those that are not supported in this manner, or for those that are but you want additional features that might be available other than basic printing or scanning, it will be necessary to turn to the printer’s manufacturer support for additional assistance. Let’s take a general look at what some of the common printer manufacturers offer about Windows 10 support:

First approach: Attempt to install the printer with Windows 10 native support:

  1. Connect your printer by USB cable to your computer or configure your printer to be accessible on your network per the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Type printer setup into the Cortana Search Box and then press enter on your keyboard. This will open the Add a device control panel and begin searching for your printer.

  3. If Windows 10 recognizes your printer properly, follow the prompts on the screen and complete the setup of your printer. Print a test page and confirm that it is working as expected.
  4. If Windows 10 will not recognize your printer, there is an option to click through help in finding your printer (The printer I want isn't listed).

  5. If this does not resolve the driver installation, then the best course of action at this time would be to check the manufacturer’s support options for printer drivers specifically for your model of printer to be used with Windows 10. Below are some of the most common options:
    • HP: HP has plenty of helpful information at their support site, including some Windows 10 specific information and FAQs. Go to the HP support website for software and driver downloads and enter your HP model number. An option is also included on that same page to help detect connected HP products if necessary. Once this information is entered, you are taken to a product-specific page of software and driver updates that are available for your model.
    • Epson: Epson has a support page dedicated to Windows 10 support of their products. Go to Epson's Windows 10 Support Website and provide your product model information selected from a dropdown menu. For example, selecting the Epson WorkForce WF-3620 will ask a couple of questions about the Windows 10 Edition and the Connection Type that you are using and as you make these selections it will guide you to the proper driver file to download from their website.
    • Canon: Canon has plenty of helpful information at their support site - when you go to the referenced support and driver page, Windows 10 specific information is available by clicking through the Support Topics on the right of the page. To get to Canon's consumer support page click here for software and driver downloads and either enter your product model number or choose the option to pick your product model from a list. Once this information is entered, you are taken to a product-specific page of software and driver updates that are available for your model.
    • Brother: Brother offers driver downloads and updates at their support website - enter your product model number or select from a more general product group. Once this information is entered, you are taken to a product-specific page of software and driver updates that are available for your model. Brother also has more specific information relating to Windows 10 Compatibility at this page.
